Ratchet & Clank Collection Preview (PlayStation 3)

Who says Ratchet and Clank are done with the PS3? Not this package.

Along with online support, Ratchet and Clank Collection will feature full 1080p conversion at the hands of Idol Minds, who are working with Insomniac Games to ensure the best stuff from Ratchet’s universe makes the cut.  You can also play in stereoscopic 3D, in case you feel like seeing bullets fly your way, or Ratchet’s worlds come to life in a whole new fashion.  And, yes, Trophy collectors, you’ll have your fill of earnable rewards in each game, including three new Platinum trophies.  Good luck getting them, though.  As you’re probably aware, the Ratchet and Clank games are beast on the highest difficulty.

Now comes the question of why the game’s taking so long to come out.  It’s getting a spring release in Europe, so why a fall release in the US?  Well, apparently, Sony and Insomniac are planning something worthwhile for the game’s tenth anniversary release.  What it is yet is anyone’s guess.  Maybe a new game that ties in with the trilogy?  A downloadable version of Deadlocked?  Who knows?  But they assure the wait will be worth it, so we’ll see…

Hey, I’m just thrilled that the collection is officially coming.  The Ratchet and Clank games are among my favorite PlayStation 2 games, and the Ratchet and Clank Collection serves as a reminder that classic games still have a place in today’s gaming world.  We’ll be shooting up aliens like a pro when the game arrives later this year.  Be sure to check back for the review, with a snarky comment or two.  That’s the Captain Quark way!
