Syfy and Trion Worlds have big plans for April 2013. The game publisher and developer and TV network are blending Hollywood entertainment with massively multiplayer online (MMO) gaming. Defiance will launch next year as both a TV series and a MMO game that will inhabit the same universe. The new trailer below shows a behind-the-scenes look at the production. Featuring cast from the series (Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Jaime Murray and Tony Curran) as well as members of the visionary creative teams from both the game and show, the video below shows how game makers and Hollywood veterans are working together to push transmedia forward.

Defiance is an interesting enterprise in collaboration with Trion Worlds, with the Syfy series and Trion's multi-platform shooter MMO poised to debut simultaneously. Set in the near future, Defiance introduces a completely transformed planet Earth, inhabited by the human and alien survivors of a universal war. Forced to co-habitate, the disparate group struggles to build a new society among the devastation. The dramatic tapestry of the series and the intense action of the game will exist in a single universe where their respective narratives will inform one another and evolve together into one overall story.
