The Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Alliance (S3DGA) is asking gamers for help and offering some cool prizes as a reward. The U-Decide Initiative is an industry-wide effort to survey PC and console gamers around the world to find out more about the consumer perspective. One of the big games of 2011, Dragon Age 2, is in development at BioWare’s Edmonton-based studio. Dragon Age 2 is the sequel to the triple-platinum-selling Dragon Age: Origins which was named “RPG of the Year” in 2009 by Game Informer, G4, IGN, and SpikeTV. With Dragon Age 2, the world’s preeminent RPG developer is revolutionizing the genre again, infusing the universe with more action, a new, more responsive combat system and a dynamic story that is already among the most multifaceted in gaming. Dragon Age 2 traces the rise to power of Hawke, a survivor of the Blight and a hero who will transform the face of the Dragon Age universe forever. Craft your own player and create the team of your dreams using a web-based application at www.easportsfootball.com. Create a player by choosing his appearance, accessories and attributes and then create an original team with a distinctive crest and kits, complete with home stadium.

There's a reason why the videogame industry treats videogame journalists so well. The Guildhall at Southern Methodist University  and Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) recently conducted a behavioral study to measure the influence professional critic reviews have on purchase behavior, willingness to recommend, and consumer perception of individual video game titles.  The results reinforce the industry’s assumptions of a strong causal link between professional critic reviews and their ability to affect consumers’ actions and perceptions.

The ESA released its annual Essential Facts About the Computer and Video Game Industry report. The 2010 survey confirmed that computer and video game play remains widespread, and that game play is an increasingly social activity. Sixty seven percent of American households play computer and video games, and 62 percent of gamers say they play with other gamers in person at least one hour per week. Family play has also grown in popularity, with nearly half of all parents (48 percent) reporting they play with their children at least once per week.

The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) will donate $25,000 to Swords to Plowshares to help fund their employment training programs and career placement services, which provide assistance to recently returning veterans in the San Francisco Bay and Oakland areas.  Swords to Plowshares is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides counseling, case management, employment training, and placement assistance to thousands of veterans annually in the San Francisco Bay Area.

AMD announced that Activate!, an interactive Web site that enables kids to easily design and program video games, has been translated into Mandarin and is being deployed at the not-for-profit Dandelion Middle School in Beijing. Activate! is primarily targeted for children ages 13-15 and is being used via the school’s Intranet. Activate! also contains tutorials for making games, example games for users to play and features a gallery of user-generated games. Four, one-week long workshops to teach kids how to design games using the Activate! game development tool commences today at the school. The workshops will be taught by instructors from Parsons The New School for Design and are estimated to reach about 480 students.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Academy Award-winning cinematic franchise that generated nearly one billion dollars worldwide, the Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy will debut on Blu-ray and DVD on October 26, 2010 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.  Gamers will be able to drive the DeLorean in a new series of episodic videogames from Telltale Games.

Having built a solid fan base with its first collaboration, “Star Wars Galaxies,” Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) and LucasArts have teamed up again for another online vid game experience. This one, “Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures” (www.CloneWarsAdventures.com), is based on Lucasfilm’s hit animated television series that airs on Cartoon Network. The free-to-play game is focused on the growing family online vid game audience.

Golf fans looking forward to watching the upcoming American Century Championship on NBC July 17 and 18, can now experience the same fairways, greens and lakeside vistas as the celebrities and athletes who play in the annual tournament -- all from the comfort of a personal computer. Inspired by the premier event in celebrity golf, NBC Sports, World Golf Tour and American Century Investments have created a virtual golf challenge that allows gamers to play the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and become eligible for a week-long VIP trip for two to the 2011 edition of the celebrity tournament.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, North Carolina – Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology is fueling a major new government and commercial partnership that will send gamers to the moon, Mars and Beyond. Virtual Heroes has partnered with serious game developers Motion in Place and Project Whitecard to develop a new massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game with the help and resources of NASA. This new subscription-based game, Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond, which will launch in phases beginning with a playable demo on July 6 through Valve’s Steam network called Moon Base Alpha.

Electronic Arts is taking its latest Need for Speed racer on the road. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit On Tour is a seven-city event that will take this year’s hottest racing videogame directly to fans before its release in November. Each stop on the Need for Speed Hot Pursuit On Tour will take place at a hot local venue and will feature world-renowned hip hop and rock artists and showcase an assortment of the world’s sexiest exotic cars including a one-of-a-kind Lamborghini cop car.

Hulu will bring its new $10 per month TV subscription services to multiple devices in the U.S. beginning this July. While PlayStation 3, iPhone and iPad owners will be able to watch entire seasons of hit TV shows like “Modern Family,” “Family Guy,” and “Glee” right away, Xbox 360 owners will have to wait until early 2011 to access the service.
