The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced five nominations for Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 3, including for the coveted title of Best Picture. The Oscar nominations are the latest achievement for the 3D blockbuster film, which has earned over $1 billion worldwide at the box office. Australian film and TV actor Liam McIntyre has excelled at a grueling and rigorous audition process to claim the title role in the second season of Starz’ hit franchise, “Spartacus.” McIntyre takes over the role of the Thracian warrior sold into slavery in the Roman Republic city of Capua – where he rises to become the champion of the city – before leading the slave revolt that ended Season 1. The part was played in the first season of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” by Andy Whitfield, who was forced to leave the show to battle cancer. Whitfield gave his blessing to the recasting. Starz Digital Media, the digital and on-demand licensing arm of Starz, announced today the upcoming launches of its first social media game, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, and iPad multimedia script app for the “Spartacus” Starz original series. The Spartacus: Gods of the Arena social media game is free to play and brings players into a world of fame, fortune, glory and (of course) blood, all via a Facebook social gaming experience.  A full public launch of the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena social media game is planned for January 20, prior to the exclusive debut of “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” on Starz, January 21. Ubisoft has an early hit into 2011 as Just Dance 2 has sold through more than five million units worldwide for the Wii system from Nintendo, according to internal estimates. Launched October 12, 2010 in North America, Just Dance 2 has held a prime spot in the Top 10 video game sales charts in both the U.S. (NPD) and Europe (GfK Chart Track) through this year.
