NBA 2K12 hits stores in just about three days' time, and players everywhere will be able to get their basketball fix without listening to David Stern and Dwayne Wade yell at each other.  Thank goodness, because it's the sport that matters, not the politics behind it.  What's more, you can literally get into the action with the PlayStation 3 version by taking control with the PlayStation Move.  So how's it work?

NBA 2K12 is now just days away from release, and basketball players everywhere can't wait to get their hands on it to see how it fares.  But now you can take your game to the next level, as 2K Sports has announced a promotion with Virgin Gaming and Gamestop, where players can compete for part of a $100,000 prize, just for showing off their skills.

Last year, when it came to deciding on a basketball game to own, there was clearly no contest.  EA Sports, worried about the critical backlash it would receive, canned NBA Elite 11 days before it was set to ship, leaving 2K Sports' NBA 2K11 wide open to dominate the market.  This year, however, EA Sports has an interesting new competitor to take on NBA 2K12, even though it's made for a different kind of audience than those who played Elite.

My Player has grown into one of the most fundamental features in the NBA 2K series over the years, allowing you to enter the sport the way you want and eventually creating a legend in the process.  This year has a few new features, and you’ll definitely relate to them like you would the real sport – well, if there was a real sport this year anyway.

NBA 2K12 is now ten days and counting from hitting retail, and we can tell that a lot of you fans out there are thrilled to be getting your hands on the only true basketball game in town.  But now 2K Sports is adding some extra incentive to the deal for those of you that are early adopters.  If you buy one of the first few copies that hit shelves on day one, you'll gain access to two additional "legends" teams for download, upping the count to 34 playable teams.  Yes, 34.

This past Tuesday, 2K Sports gave basketball fans a bit of relief from this ongoing drama between the owners and the players by releasing a playable demo for its upcoming dunk-filled opus NBA 2K12, which goes on sale for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and other systems on October 4th.  The demo, which takes about 1.2 GB of hard drive space, gives you an idea of what to expect in terms of gameplay changes, though there isn't much else to go on since it's so limited.  Still, if you were a fan of last year's game, you may appreciate the subtle changes made this time around.

Even though the upcoming NBA season doesn't look like it's going to happen, that hasn't dulled our excitement for the upcoming NBA 2K12, which is now just two weeks away from release.  You can download the demo now on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network and get a taste of what changes the gameplay have gone through (not much negative, we can honestly say), but one mode we can't wait to try in the final game is NBA's Greatest.  You're no longer just dealing with Michael Jordan's legacy, but rather the legacy of 30 classic NBA teams.  And the way 2K Sports has done this mode is unbelievable.  Basketball fans will love it.

Ever wonder who’s better, Michael Jordan in his prime or Kobe Bryant?  2K Sports will allow you to find out, at least virtually. With the NBA lockout hanging over the new season, gamers will have plenty of new content to explore in NBA 2K12.  One of the big new features expands upon the Jordan Challenge mode from NBA 2K11, which allowed players to relive 10 different epic games from the Hall of Famer’s career. The new mode, NBA’s Greatest, will take things a step further and let past legends like Dr. J go head-to-head with current greats like LeBron James.

2K Sports NBA 2K11 has sold over 5 million copies to date, thanks in part to no direct competition from EA Sports. With the NBA lockout in full swing, 2K Sports will once again face no competition this upcoming NBA season on the simulation front from EA Sports or anyone else. Sony exited the NBA game arena a couple years back. But EA will have a new NBA Jam: On Fire Edition being released digitally this fall filled with arcade action. The developer talks about what’s in store for EA’s second NBA Jam title in this exclusive interview from EA Showcase.

With the NBA lockout, 2K Sports is placing its bets on the past for NBA 2K12. Michael Jordan, joined by Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, will grace three unique artistic covers in celebration of NBA legacy. NBA 2K12, the next installment of the only NBA video game simulation on the market, will offer three separate covers for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers featuring three of the NBA’s greatest legends of all time, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. 2K Sports bypassed current NBA stars like reigning champion Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks.
