Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s latest action film, GAMER, takes a look at the dark side of videogame culture. The movie stars Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, Amber Valletta, and Kyra Sedgwick. Within this future world, videogames allow players to control actual human beings. Games like Slayers offer first-person shooting action with death row inmates as the warriors and the bait. Society turns The Sims into a real-life hook-up experience with actual people being controlled by gamers at home. Valletta, who has appeared in blockbusters like What Lies Beneath and Hitch, stars alongside Butler in this action film from the creators of the Crank franchise. Valletta talks about the videogame research she did for this film in this exclusive interview. You can pick up the movie on Blu-ray Disc and DVD.

Actor Michael C. Hall stars in the new Lionsgate Home Entertainment Blu-ray Disc and DVD release, GAMER. The acclaimed actor is having a convergence moment. Best known for playing a serial killer who tries only to kill the bad guys in Showtime’s “Dexter,” Hall can be seen on the small screen as Ken Castle, a videogame tycoon who blends real people with virtual games, in GAMER. Hall has also gone virtual in Marc Ecko Entertainment’s and developer Icarus Studios’ Dexter videogame, which is out now on iPhone and iPod Touch. Hall took some time to talk about his latest movie and his first venture into videogames in this exclusive interview.

One thing that was evident coming from CES 2010 in Las Vegas is that consumers enjoy customization across electronics and games. From iPhones to Xbox Live Avatars to Microsoft’s Project Natal facial recognition technology, gamers are able to fully customize their experience like never before. Exent, a distributor of online downloadable videogames, has offered new customization options with the just-launched "U-Pic," a new series of personalized games that lets players upload photos and images directly into games and then share them with their friends and family via email or Facebook.

LAS VEGAS -- A new family-friendly massively multiplayer online (MMO) game from LEGO was on display at CES 2010 in Las Vegas. Developed by The LEGO Group and NetDevil, LEGO Universe will bring the iconic brick online in the first MMO game based on the LEGO play experience. The game will enable fans of all ages to build, create, interact with friends, battle, and explore LEGO worlds – past, present and future. LAS VEGAS – Sony used the main stage at its booth at the Consumer Electronics Show to showcase its latest Blu-ray Disc technology. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will debut movieIQ Sync, the company’s first portable BD-Live feature, on the Blu-ray release of MICHAEL JACKSON’S THIS IS IT, in stores January 26, 2010.

LAS VEGAS -- Mad Catz Interactive showcased a variety of new gaming products at CES 2010. One of the highlights of its line-up at the Consumer Electronics Show was the Super Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick: Tournament Edition “S” available in one of two unique designs along with new character artwork for four newly licensed FightPads. Both the new Tournament Edition “S” and FightPads  are available for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.

LAS VEGAS – The hottest iPhone App at CES 2010 came from Parrot, which is better known for making wireless peripherals for mobile phones. Now Parrot has jumped into the augmented reality gaming experience with the AR.Drone for use with the iPhone and iPod touch. The intuitive Parrot AR.Drone, a quadricopter piloted with an iPhone or iPod touch, allows adults or kids to fly in a real-world environment while simultaneously playing a video game from the device’s screen.

LEGO Universe is coming to life at CES 2010 with hands-on demos, beta sign ups, and the debut game trailer. Booth visitors can also meet LEGO fans helping to co-create the game alongside the professional development team. The first MMO – massively-multiplayer online  – game based on the LEGO play experience, LEGO Universe will launch on the PC during the second half of 2010.

SkyGolf, maker of GPD rangefinder SkyCaddie, has entered into an exclusive partnership agreement with World Golf Tour (WGT). WGT is a free Flash-based golf videogame that recreates actual courses from some of the most famous golf resorts around the world, including The Old Course at St Andrew's Links, Wolf Creek Golf Club and Bethpage Black.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, North Carolina – Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 technology is fueling a major new government and commercial partnership that will send gamers to the moon, Mars and Beyond. Virtual Heroes has partnered with serious game developers Motion in Place and Project Whitecard to develop a new massively-multiplayer online (MMO) game with the help and resources of NASA. This new subscription-based game, Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond, will launch in phases beginning with a playable demo late this year.

National Geographic Interactive Platforms Group and NDi Media announced that they have teamed up to develop and distribute Virtual World of Music, a new multiplayer and online social and mobile virtual gaming experience and destination for music lovers.

For Virtual World of Music, National Geographic Games, a dynamic part of National Geographic's Interactive Platforms division, will take the lead in working with NDi Media to give players from around the world a fun, exciting and authentic experience using theme music from around the world to create and share music. The game will present a music-themed virtual world and interactive environment that enables users to create and share personal music compositions. National Geographic's Mobile and Music groups, among others, also will participate in the strategic partnership.
