Syfy Begins Filming Groundbreaking Defiance TV Series in Toronto

The potential future of television and gaming is entering full production. Fresh off their Comic-Con 2012 panel in San Diego, the cast and creators of Defiance are filming the new Syfy series in Toronto. Having completed shooting on the pilot episode this past spring, fans will be in for 12 episodes and 13 hours of sci-fi action in April 2013. But that’s just the beginning of the adventure, as there’s also a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game set in the same world. Grant Bowler (who plays Nolan) talks about the cross-media project in the exclusive video interview below.

Syfy and Trion Worlds are making a big push at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 for the April 2013 launch of Syfy’s “Defiance” TV series and Trion Worlds’ accompanying massively multiplayer online (MMO) game. Syfy is transforming the Hard Rock Hotel’s Mary Jane’s Restaurant into the Defiance Café for the duration of the annual convention. Trion Worlds and Syfy Push Transmedia Forward with Defiance TV series and MMO Game

Syfy and Trion Worlds have big plans for April 2013. The game publisher and developer and TV network are blending Hollywood entertainment with massively multiplayer online (MMO) gaming. Defiance will launch next year as both a TV series and a MMO game that will inhabit the same universe. The new trailer below shows a behind-the-scenes look at the production. Featuring cast from the series (Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Jaime Murray and Tony Curran) as well as members of the visionary creative teams from both the game and show, the video below shows how game makers and Hollywood veterans are working together to push transmedia forward.
