In what appears to be a decisive turning point, U.S. flat-panel TV shipments are projected to dip for the first time on an annual basis this year, ending an unbroken string of growth since the market began. Shipments in 2012 of flat-panel TVs into the American market are forecast to decline to 37.1 million units, down 5 percent from 39.1 million units in 2011, according to an IHS iSuppli U.S. TV Market Tracker report from information and analytics provider IHS. Only last year, shipments had inched up 1 percent from 38.6 million units in 2010. Some consumer electronics companies continue to do well, like Vizio, which can be seen in the video below showcasing new big screen TVs.

When Nintendo launches its first high definition video game console, Wii U, next year, game developers will be able to make stereoscopic 3D games for all three major consoles for the first time. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata confirmed that from a technology standpoint, gamers who connect Wii U to a 3D TV will be able to experience 3D gaming. However, Iwata said 3D gaming is not an area that Nintendo is focusing on in the console space.

LAS VEGAS (CES) – OnLive and Vizio today announced that OnLive will be available on Vizio’s brand-new VIA Plus HDTVs and Blu-ray players as well as Vizio’s VIA tablet  and VIA smartphone that it is introducing here a few days before CES. The cloud gaming service will support full 1080P 1920 x 1080 HD resolutions wirh stereoscopic 3D and SRS 5.1 surround sound support as well as work with OnLive’s low latency wireless game pads, which are based on the new IEEE 802.15.4 wireless standard. OnLive runs on Vizio’s Internet Apps platform which will be available across all four Vizio VIA product lines.
