Showtime is gearing up for the sixth season of its hit show, “Dexter,” starring Michael C. Hall. And for the second consecutive Comic-Con, “Dexter” is getting a new video game. This year, the world’s favorite serial killer is going social. Marc Ecko Entertainment has created Dexter Slice of Life, a brand new Facebook game that will launch in tandem with the first episode of Season 6 this September. Showtime is debuting the new video game at a Comic-Con 2011 party at Wired Cafe on July 21. “Dexter” star David Zayas, who plays Angel, talks about video games in the exclusive video interview below.
Dexter Slice of Life will be the first Facebook game to introduce real-time stealth gameplay, allowing social gamers to stalk their victims and satisfy the dark passenger. The game allows players to step into the role of a virtual Dexter Morgan and follow along the Season 6 narrative every Sunday. The new series will introduce actors Edward James Olmos, Colin Hanks, and Mos as central characters.
Gameplay involves exploring Miami and locations seen on the series to complete missions and find evidence. Players can collect and earn special items to help you progress in the game and complete missions. One of the key themes of the new season is Dexter Morgan finding spirituality, which will also play into the new game.
This is the second “Dexter” video game from Marc Ecko Entertainment, but it’s the company’s first title in the burgeoning social games space. A downloadable PC game and iOS (iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch) Dexter: The Game were released last year and developed by Icarus Studios in conjunction with Showtime Networks and CBS Consumer Products.
In this first game, players take on the role of Dexter Morgan and explore a fully-realized 3D world. Environments for the game were digitally recreated from actual sets in Miami. The game featured the voices and likenesses of the entire cast, including Hall and Zayas.
During the day Dexter is a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department, but at night he creates his own brand of justice on criminals. Players analyze crime scenes, uncovering evidence and use stealth tactics to stalk their prey. The outcome of every choice and action revolves around the Code of Harry: only kill the guilty, maintain the “mask” and most important of all, don’t get caught!
“Dexter: The Game is the next step in what we hope will be a long line of Dexter products,” said Marc Fernandez, Executive Vice President of Marc Ecko Entertainment. “Every time we release a new Dexter game the fans continue to support us.”
Season 5 of “Dexter” comes home to Blu-ray and DVD on August 16 from Paramount Home Entertainment.
